Streak Ends At 7 for Sox

Little bit of a disappointing way to blow the streak because this was surely a winnable game. Few times the Sox let Hochevar off the hook, Gavin had a few chances to get out of the two big innings, and the eventual game winning hit was a bloop shot that if not for a heck of a lot of luck wouldn't have fallen in.

Of course the streak had to end at some point, but it would have been nice to have kept it going a little while longer. The Sox are playing the best ball they have played all year long and the Royals have really been struggling both hitting and pitching. They beat Grienke, they outlasted Chen, they just couldn't knock Hochevar out when they had the chances.

But this streak was huge for the Sox. They now stand just 2.5 games out of first and a half game ahead of the Twins for 2nd. They are in perfect striking distance to actually take the lead in this division at some point, but more importantly they have placed themselves clearly in the "contender" category. And what that means is that Dye, Konerko, Dotel, and many others should not be on the move. And furthermore Kenny Williams may actually go out and get a player or two to help the team compete right now.

All that really matters is that this streak has given the Sox legitamate hope, and the way I see it we should be in for a full season of competitive baseball whether we make the postseason or not.
