Ryan Freel traded to Royals

According to this article on MLB.com, and the bottom line on ESPN, Ryan Freel has been dealt to the Royals for a player to be named later and cash considerations. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the PTBNL is Zack Greinke, but I'm not holding my breath.

This deal obviously makes sense for both teams: Freel's usefulness wore off with the emergence of Andres Blanco and Jake Fox as viable infield options, and he was simply a "change of scenery" project in the first place. As for the Royals: with Alex Gordon and Mike Aviles down, the Royals have been plodding along with the likes of Luis Hernandez, Willie Bloomquist, Tony Pena Jr, and others in their infield, so Freel is likely to be an upgrade.

Whatever happens Ryan, Cubs fans will always remember your great baserunning play in the late innings of a hearbreaking loss to the White Sox, and of course your little buddy Farney.
