Cubs Steal a Big win in Colorado

On a night where everything seemed to go wrong, it all ended up being okay. For one night at least. The Cubs got a big road win against the Rockies 6-5, giving Ryan Dempster his sixth win of the season.

The Cubs put Z on the DL before the game, lost Aramis Ramirez in the middle of the game due to soreness, saw the Cardinals win, and made about 15 errors in the bottom of the fourth, add in a stupid base running play by Ryan Theriot and you have a recipe for a Cubs nightmare.

Still it all worked out, the Cubs held on to a one run lead for three innings with Guzman, Marmol, and Gregg not giving up any runs. They finished off Dempster's six inning two earned run (three unearned though) no walk baseball. Good effort from the pitching staff all around.

The offense was led by homers from Derrek Lee and Kosuke Fukudome. Dome added a RBI double, and Milton Bradley drove in a run as well. A Dempster bases loaded walk and a Theriot RBI single rounded out the Cubs scoring for the night.

It could have been real bad, but instead its pretty much all good. Cubs win, Z should only miss one start, Rami is just sore, and Bradley and Fukudome seem to be hitting really well right now.

Onto tomorrow where rookie sensation Randy Wells tries to keep his run going in Coors against Jason Hammel. I feel good about seeing Wells pitch, so that means this will probably be a disaster. Still its an important game tomorrow for the Cubs. Wins against the Rockies help in the wild card chase and they show us the its possible for the Cubs to take down good baseball teams.
